Job Summary:
We are seeking a Fiber Technician Level 1 to place, splice, terminate, and test fiber optic cable for commercial and business installations. This role supports the delivery of reliable high-speed connectivity across the greater Los Angeles and Orange County areas. You will work primarily on outside plant and inside plant projects for business customers, following established standards and best practices. On-the-job training is available for candidates who are motivated, mechanically inclined, and eager to learn fiber optic skills.
Key Responsibilities:
-Place and install fiber optic cable (single-mode and multimode) for business installations, including aerial, underground, conduit, and indoor routing in commercial facilities.
-Perform fusion and mechanical splicing of fiber optic cables, prepare cables, and properly dress and seal splice closures and enclosures.
-Terminate fiber optic cables using industry-standard connectors and methods; install patch panels, enclosures, and related hardware.
-Test fiber optic links using OTDR, optical power meters, light sources, and other test equipment; analyze results, identify faults, and document performance to meet specifications.
-Troubleshoot and repair fiber optic systems to restore service or resolve signal issues.
-Read and interpret work orders, splice diagrams, blueprints, maps, and as-built documentation.
-Maintain accurate records of work performed, materials used, test results, and as-builts.
-Operate company vehicles safely to travel to job sites; perform routine vehicle and equipment inspections.
-Follow all safety protocols, including working at heights, in vaults/manholes, around traffic, and with live or potentially energized systems as applicable.
-Provide professional, courteous service when interacting with business customers, contractors, and team members.
-Keep tools, equipment, and work areas clean, organized, and properly maintained.
Qualifications:
-High school diploma or GED equivalent.
-Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record that meets company insurance requirements.
-Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions and in diverse environments (commercial buildings, rooftops, poles, vaults, trenches, etc.).
-Physical ability to lift and carry materials (typically up to 50+ lbs), climb ladders, work from heights or bucket trucks, and perform repetitive tasks requiring manual dexterity and good hand-eye coordination.
-Basic mechanical aptitude, attention to detail, and willingness to follow technical procedures and safety standards.
-Strong communication skills and ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
-Ability to read technical documents and use basic computer/mobile tools for documentation and work orders.
-Reliable transportation to the Santa Fe Springs base (or ability to meet company reporting requirements).
Preferred (not required):
-Prior experience in telecommunications, cable installation, low-voltage work, or construction. Familiarity with fiber tools or testing equipment is a plus.
-Relevant certifications (e.g., FOA) are beneficial but not mandatory.
Training & Development:
-On-the-job training is provided. We support skill development in fiber placement, splicing, testing, and safety so motivated candidates can grow into proficient technicians.Work EnvironmentField-based role with daily travel throughout Los Angeles and Orange County. Work is primarily outdoors or at commercial customer sites and may involve early starts, overtime, or occasional after-hours response depending on project needs. Safety equipment and tools are typically provided or reimbursed per company policy.
